How to Setup Weighted Gradebook 2
print icon

After you have setup your weighted gradebook, you need to add grade items and categories. Here is an example of how to weight grade items by points/percentage:

Begin by clicking on the "Grades" tab in the blue navbar. Then click on "manage grades" toward the top left of the page.

Begin by clicking on the blue "New" button and select "Item"

Click on "Numeric." Then enter the name, points, and weight for the grade item. When finished scroll down and click "Save and Close"

Next, make a grade item called "final exam" that is worth 70 pts and 50 weight. Your manage grades should now look like this:

Since there is more than 1 quiz, make a quiz category. Click on the "New" button and then "Category"

Give your category a name, weight 15, and since all quizzes are worth the same amount, click the radio button next to "Distribute weights by points across all items in the category" then "Save and Close."

Now click on the blue "New" blue button and "Item." Then click "numeric." Give your quiz a name, put it in the "Quizzes" category with the dropdown, and finally enter the point value.

Now create a "Quiz 2" grade item with the same instructions. Your manage grades area should now look like this:

Next, since there are multiple mock board exams worth the same amount of points, create a "Mock Board Exams" category.

Finally, create 8 mock board exam grade items in the "Mock Board Exam" category, worth 20 pts each.

Afterwards, your gradebook should now look like this:

You can now link the exams, quizzes, and assignment to these new grade items.
